The Circle Way

The Circle Way is a method for holding constructive group discussions whereby every participant has a voice and contributes to the shared leadership and responsibility of the group. Sitting in a circle allows each person to see and hear one another, and the purpose of the meeting is placed at the center to help maintain focus and intention.

The group creates a set of social Agreements for speaking and listening, with some members stepping into roles designed to facilitate respectful conversation. By abiding by this process, participants can explore their differences and seek common ground, opening creative options to transform conflict through authentic communication and powerful decision-making.

The Circle Way process comprises the foundation of every program at PeaceWorks NH. This may be combined with other meeting methodologies and practices according to the unique needs of participants and groups.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

There is a dedicated, quiet space for Reiki sessions in the Avalon Studio.

Its use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Learn more about Reiki here.

Expressive Arts

An Invitation to Explore Your Healing Journey through the Arts

There is a growing movement worldwide among artists and nonartists alike to use art to heal the body, soothe the mind and transform the spirit.  The Expressive Arts can include movement, sound healing, singing, visualization, poetry, collage, drawing, painting and other forms of artistic expression.

“Artists have always known intuitively what science is just now beginning to discover: that creating a visual image through any medium can produce physical and emotional benefits for both the creator and those who view it. Most important, you don’t need to think of yourself as an artist or even believe you have any “talent” to tap into the healing powers of art.”
— CoFounder of the Expressive Arts programs at Salve Regina University

The extensive research in the field of split-brain functioning, visualization, and psychoneuroimmunology (study of the emotions on the immune system) is helping us understand the powerful healing potential of the Expressive Arts and how they can be used by anyone to create powerful changes to activate healing at the deepest level.

The split- brain research has revealed that we think and process our experiences, feelings and emotions as images first and words second. We know that chronic stress can become toxic to our bodies and result in immune system dysfunction.  We can support our immune system and healing journey through visualization and expressing our emotions intuitively through the arts.  It is not about creating a beautiful art, but rather listening to the body and expressing those emotions through the art – it is the process of this personal creating that can be so powerful and healing.

The process of engaging through the Expressive Arts and reflecting on what we create, invites us all to be creating in an authentic manner, to discover our true wisdom deep inside ourselves that can help change your life and support your health.  The Expressive Arts helps us have a conversation with self.

Personally, I have used the Expressive Arts to work through challenging times in my life, to help me make sense of what was happening around me and create a release for my stress.  Most recently, after being diagnosed with Lyme Disease, I have used the Expressive Arts to help me work through my emotions, pain and to redirect the focus of my work.  Using the Expressive Arts for journaling has helped me witness my deep personal challenges and my surprising progress while gaining new clarity and a renewed sense of purpose.

The Expressive Arts can be combined with other healing modalities, like Reiki, to support everyone’s healing journey.   I invite you to come and create and allow the colors, shapes, sounds and images to transform and ordinary day into an extraordinary day as you tap into your greatest healing potential.  The Expressive Arts invite us all to explore with our senses, be spontaneous, delve deep into our hearts and release. This creative work can become a bridge between our inner and outer realities. Come create and play with purpose!  No experience necessary, just a curious soul and a desire to creatively explore the issues, challenges and questions within this mystery we call life.
